Part 4 in a 4 part series
Bed bugs in the Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky run a little faster and burrow a little more in the dark now because they are afraid Drama will catch them. Drama, a 2 year old German Shepherd, is a bed bug canine who works with K9 Detection Services for Swat Pest. Just as some dogs are taught to sniff drugs or bombs, Drama has been taught to find bed bugs.
Chad Bailey, the owner of Drama and K9 Detection Services, says Drama sniffs out the bed bugs. An area police officer, Chad knows how to interpret Drama’s cues when she smells a bed bug. She was taught to smell them at 1 of 2 canine bed bug schools accredited by the NESDCA, the National Entomology Scent Detection Canine Association. She is recertified in bed bug detection each year.
Drama works with Swat Pest to proactively inspect facilities for bed bugs. Swat Pest and K9 Detection Services work with hotels, hospitals, schools, universities, nursing homes, group homes, and apartment complexes not only in the Evansville, area but also in Illinois and Kentucky. When she inspects a facility for bed bugs, it dramatically reduces the time involved in finding a bed bug infestation. She can lead Chad and pest control professionals directly to a single bed bug buried in a box spring.
More than that - Drama's just a wonderful dog who works hard and is a delight to know.
